Nadya Jamal – Blog 6: Interview with journalist Rojita Adhikari specializing in women’s labour migration issues in Nepal

For my last podcast, I sat down with Rojita Adhikari in Basantapur, or Kathmandu Durbar Square, a historic and popular pubic sqaure. Rojita is a Nepali journalist investigating labour trafficking and the conditions of work of women migrant workers, particular those leaving Nepal to perform domestic work in the Gulf countries. A first time interviewer, if I missed any important questions or if you have any additional ones for Rojita, please leave comments!

Nadya Jamal – Blog 5: Kathmandu – A sensory experience

In this post I reflect on some of the neighbourhoods I often frequent in Kathmandu and the sights, sounds and smells that accompany me.

Nadya Jamal – Blog 4: Case Story of a Nepali Migrant Worker

In this blog I share the story of a Nepali migrant worker and his relationship with the Pourakhi Safe House counsellor. Her story is a reminder for me of the experiences, joys and challenges shared by front-line support workers in grassroots organizations. I think of many of the people I have worked with in Vancouver as I share some thoughts of the hierarchies of non-profits and the positioning of front-line workers within these structures.

Nadya Jamal – Blog 3: Re-Intergration of migrant workers in Nepal – The Pourakhi-Nepal Safe house

In this blog, I share some of my initial experiences of being an intern at Pourakhi including the weeks with sparse periods of excitement. Shifting my focus then to the women’s safe house, I make some observations of the culture and day to day activities, including thoughts regarding the contrast and similarities between mental health services in Nepal and Canada. I couldn’t help sharing a few photos of Kathmandu’s beautiful old neighbourhoods and streets.

Nadya Jamal – Blog 2: First impressions and exchanges with Nepal

Reflections on my first few weeks in Kathmandu and the implications of the fuel crisis on day-to-day life. (Adapted from my personal blog at https://nadyainnepal.wordpress.com/)

Nadya Jamal – Blog 1: Walking tour of Intramuros – the historic walled city of Manila

Here is my first blog about a walking tour we did of Intramuros in the Old City of Manila.
